Head of Manufacturing & Operations

Caniçal, Madeira

ABOUT US

We’re a robotics startup building an agnostic orchestration platform that allows companies to manage, monitor, and control multiple robots and robotic systems from a single interface. We’re also developing custom Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models that enable natural-language reasoning and autonomy across diverse robot types and industries. Our mission is to make robotics more accessible, intelligent, and scalable across sectors from hospitality and healthcare to defense and sports facility management. Think of it as an operating system for any robot, with an expanding library of intelligent capabilities. We are self-funded and currently building the v1 platform with our first pilot partners in the energy, hospitality and sports sectors.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Lead the Ardia Madeira Factory from greenfield to 600 units per year across three parallel assembly lines — humanoid, quadruped and mobile upper-body. You are the critical path to the ARDIA 5.0 industrialisation plan and report directly to the CEO.

TECH STACK

  • Lean / TPS
  • ERP / MES
  • SolidWorks
  • ISO 9001

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own the stand-up and ramp of three parallel assembly lines plus the shared calibration and QC backbone
  • Build and lead the full operations organisation — 55–70 FTEs at steady state
  • Execute the phased launch: quadruped first (months 0–9), mobile upper-body (months 9–18), humanoid (months 18–28)
  • Own production targets, lean operations, first-pass yield, safety and on-island talent build including the in-house assembly academy
  • Partner with R&D engineering to integrate platform outputs into the production environment

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Senior manufacturing or operations leadership in aerospace, medical device or Tier-1 automotive
  • Greenfield facility stand-up or major line ramp experience
  • Deep experience with low-volume, high-mix electromechanical assembly: takt, station balancing and calibration bottleneck risk
  • Lean manufacturing and team-building as genuine strengths
  • Committed to being Madeira-based
Nice to have
  • Robotics or advanced electromechanical product assembly experience
  • Familiarity with IFIC or Portugal 2030 investment programmes

WHY JOIN US

  • This is a rare opportunity to help design and build the foundational technology for a robotics platform from the ground up
  • Competitive salary
  • Relocation support and housing assistance for Madeira-based roles; CINM free-zone benefits
  • Small, senior, hands-on team — everyone owns a meaningful slice of the product from day one
  • Founding factory leader at a nationally recognised strategic project — PIE status already declared
