Principal Robotics AI Engineer

Principal Robotics AI Engineer

Santa Cruz, Madeira

ABOUT US

We’re a robotics startup building an agnostic orchestration platform that allows companies to manage, monitor, and control multiple robots and robotic systems from a single interface. We’re also developing custom Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models that enable natural-language reasoning and autonomy across diverse robot types and industries. Our mission is to make robotics more accessible, intelligent, and scalable across sectors from hospitality and healthcare to defense and sports facility management. Think of it as an operating system for any robot, with an expanding library of intelligent capabilities. We are self-funded and currently building the v1 platform with our first pilot partners in the energy, hospitality and sports sectors.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Principal Robotics AI Engineer to lead the development of advanced AI and computer vision systems powering autonomous robots in hospitality environments. You will architect Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, object detection and scene understanding pipelines, and scalable data strategies combining real-world and synthetic data (R2R2R).

TECH STACK

  • PyTorch / VLA
  • YOLOv8 / Mask R-CNN
  • Isaac Sim / R2R2R
  • Edge Deployment

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop and deploy AI/ML models that enable autonomous robots to perform complex tasks in hospitality environments
  • Work on computer vision pipelines using YOLOv8 and Mask R-CNN for object detection and scene understanding in hotel rooms
  • Build and train Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models for robot task execution, leveraging our LingBot-VA framework
  • Create and curate training datasets from real hotel environments, implementing data augmentation and synthetic data generation through our Real2Render2Real (R2R2R) pipeline
  • Optimize models for edge deployment on robot hardware while maintaining accuracy for tasks like cleanliness assessment and object manipulation

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, AI/ML, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in applied machine learning or computer vision
  • Strong Python skills with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch preferred)
  • Experience with object detection models (YOLO, R-CNN family) and semantic segmentation
  • Familiarity with 3D vision, point cloud processing (Open3D), or depth sensing
  • Experience with vision-language models or embodied AI is highly desirable
Nice to have
  • Published research (CVPR, ICRA, RSS, NeurIPS)
  • Experience with NVIDIA Isaac Sim or similar robotics simulation platforms

WHY JOIN US

  • This is a rare opportunity to help design and build the foundational technology for a robotics platform from the ground up
  • Competitive salary
  • Relocation support and housing assistance for Madeira-based roles; CINM free-zone benefits
  • Small, senior, hands-on team — everyone owns a meaningful slice of the product from day one
  • Lead the AI direction of a robotics platform being built from first principles
  • Work on real robots operating in real-world environments — not just benchmarks
