Junior AI Robotics Engineer

Junior AI Robotics Engineer

Santa Cruz, Madeira

ABOUT US

We’re a robotics startup building an agnostic orchestration platform that allows companies to manage, monitor, and control multiple robots and robotic systems from a single interface. We’re also developing custom Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models that enable natural-language reasoning and autonomy across diverse robot types and industries. Our mission is to make robotics more accessible, intelligent, and scalable across sectors from hospitality and healthcare to defense and sports facility management. Think of it as an operating system for any robot, with an expanding library of intelligent capabilities. We are self-funded and currently building the v1 platform with our first pilot partners in the energy, hospitality and sports sectors.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Junior AI Robotics Engineer to join the team building the AI layer of our Ardia platform — the vision, perception and action models that make our robots intelligent in real-world environments. This is an entry-level role for someone with strong ML and computer vision foundations who wants to apply those skills to real robots. You will work alongside senior AI and robotics engineers, contribute to live model pipelines and datasets, and see your work run on physical hardware in hotel and facility environments. You do not need prior robotics industry experience — curiosity, solid fundamentals and a willingness to learn on real hardware are what matter.

TECH STACK

  • Python / PyTorch
  • YOLOv8 / CV models
  • Isaac Sim / R2R2R
  • ROS 2 (learning)

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Support the development and training of computer vision models for object detection and scene understanding, using YOLOv8 and Mask R-CNN
  • Assist in building and curating training datasets from real hotel and facility environments, including labelling, cleaning and quality assurance
  • Contribute to synthetic data generation pipelines using our Real2Render2Real (R2R2R) workflow and NVIDIA Isaac Sim
  • Run experiments, track metrics and document results clearly so the team can iterate quickly
  • Support the integration of model outputs into robot perception pipelines, working closely with senior robotics engineers
  • Learn and contribute to Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model development under senior guidance

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Robotics, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrated ability through projects
  • Solid Python skills and familiarity with at least one deep learning framework (PyTorch preferred)
  • Basic understanding of computer vision concepts: image classification, object detection, segmentation
  • Ability to run experiments, interpret results and iterate — comfortable with the ML development loop
  • Genuine interest in robotics and the application of AI to physical systems
  • Strong attention to detail, especially around data quality and reproducibility
Nice to have
  • Exposure to ROS or ROS 2, even through personal projects or coursework
  • Experience with NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo or any robotics simulation environment
  • Familiarity with point cloud processing or 3D vision (Open3D, PCL)
  • Any hands-on experience with real robot hardware, however informal

WHY JOIN US

  • This is a rare opportunity to help design and build the foundational technology for a robotics platform from the ground up
  • Competitive salary
  • Relocation support and housing assistance for Madeira-based roles; CINM free-zone benefits
  • Small, senior, hands-on team — everyone owns a meaningful slice of the product from day one
  • Get hands-on experience applying AI to real robots in real environments — rare at junior level
  • Learn directly from senior engineers working on VLA models, edge deployment and humanoid robotics
