Test & Calibration Engineer

Caniçal, Madeira

ABOUT US

We’re a robotics startup building an agnostic orchestration platform that allows companies to manage, monitor, and control multiple robots and robotic systems from a single interface. We’re also developing custom Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models that enable natural-language reasoning and autonomy across diverse robot types and industries. Our mission is to make robotics more accessible, intelligent, and scalable across sectors from hospitality and healthcare to defense and sports facility management. Think of it as an operating system for any robot, with an expanding library of intelligent capabilities. We are self-funded and currently building the v1 platform with our first pilot partners in the energy, hospitality and sports sectors.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Own test and calibration at the Ardia Madeira Factory — the single largest scaling risk in humanoidclass manufacturing. You define pass/fail at every stage from IQC to final QC and own the motioncapture calibration stack.

TECH STACK

  • ROS 2
  • OptiTrack
  • Python
  • MES / SPC

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own the calibration centre: four OptiTrack mocap cells, force/torque rigs, hand/tactile benches and the ROS 2-based calibration software stack
  • Define pass/fail criteria at IQC, in-process and end-of-line test stages across all three product lines
  • Drive calibration throughput so it never becomes the production bottleneck
  • Own burn-in definition (24–72 hour climate soak cycles) and final functional test across all lines
  • Cross-train the QC team on calibration procedures; feed per-unit data into the MES and AI data flywheel

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 4+ years test, calibration or metrology for electromechanical or robotic products (robotics, medical device or aerospace)
  • Hands-on experience with motion-capture systems (OptiTrack or equivalent) and force/torque rigs — not simulation-only
  • Strong ROS 2 and test automation: you build and maintain calibration tooling, not just run scripts
  • Throughput-first mindset: prevents calibration bottlenecks proactively
  • Committed to being floor-present in Caniçal, Madeira
Nice to have
  • MES-integrated per-unit traceability system experience
  • ISO 13482 or functional safety awareness

WHY JOIN US

  • This is a rare opportunity to help design and build the foundational technology for a robotics platform from the ground up
  • Competitive salary, Ardia Academy access and a generous annual learning budget
  • Relocation support and housing assistance for Madeira-based roles; CINM free-zone benefits
  • Small, senior, hands-on team — everyone owns a meaningful slice of the product from day one
